Full Description

A desk based assessment and rapid walk-over archaeological survey was carried out at Torroble, Lairg by Wordsworth Archaeological Services in 1999.

Site 1: 10m W of the railway is a circular basin 3m in diameter and lm deep with a `wall' 2m wide. There is an opening from the E. It is surrounded by birch trees, coarse grasses and a small area of bracken. The function of this feature is uncertain. It is too small to be a domestic feature and may be a small industrial feature such as a corn-drying kiln.
Recommendation: This feature should be protected from tree root and tree throw damage.<1>
