Full Description

An archaeological survey was undertaken by Headland Archaeology in 1999 for the WGS proposal at Bunloit Hill, Drumnadrochit.

Site No. 8
Location: Inchtelloch
Class: Deserted settlement
Land use: Improved pasture
Description: A deserted settlement is located 300 m to the south-west of the Inchtelloch steading. It comprises two mortared stone buildings and a rectangular enclosure. The building to the west measures 4.5 m by 8 m and is still roofed. The other building is un-roofed and measures 5.5 m by 12 m. The settlement is shown comprising three roofed buildings with a rectangular enclosure on the l' edition OS map surveyed in 1871. Thirty years later, at the time of the OS 2"d edition, only the two present buildings are shown. The building has not been lived in since the estate gamekeeper moved out around 1918 (pers. Comm Andrew Fraser).
Condition: Both buildings were roofed at the time of the present OS survey in 1974. Over the last 25 years the main building has lost its roof and the top of the east gable.

NGR adjusted based on 1999-2001 vertical aerial photographs. <2>
