Full Description
This small stone with a simple cross etched into the surface, was found in 2019 reused in the threshold of the graveyard of the old parish church in Conan. Simple stones such as this one are very hard to date without any context. It may be a very early preaching cross from the time Christianity came to this area (perhaps in AD 500 or 600s), or perhaps later in date. It underwent conservation by Graciela Ainsworth Sculpture Conservation Ltd in 2020 and is currently on display in Dingwall Museum. <1>
See MHG60000 for Pictish cross slab discovered close by in the burial ground in March 2019.
