Full Description
A rapid walk-over survey was conducted over an area affected by the proposed Woodland Grant Scheme at Little Assynt by C. Dagg in 1999.
Site no. 3: Settlement or shieling area. Enclosed area containing the footings of at least four dwellings, other possible structures, clearance cairns and one storage structure. The enclosing wall is of stone to the east and of turf on all other sides, and the storage structure is built into this dyke to the west of the dwellings. These buildings are:
1. Rectangular, measuring 4.7m by 2.3m, with an annexe 1.7m by 2m
2. Round-ended, measuring 4.2m by 3.45m, with an entrance to th east.
3. Round-ended, measuring 5.7m by 3.5m
4. Rectangular, measuring 5.0m by 3.1m
All these buildings are aligned N-S. A turf-covered pile of stones immediately north of building 2 may be a further building. <1>
