Full Description

The site of the former Snizort corn mill. It is shown and labelled with a presumably associated building (possibly the miller's house) immediately to its northeast on the other side of the mill lade on the OS 1st and 2nd edition maps, though is 'Disused' by the time of the latter. The relatively short mill lade is shown running northwestwards from the River Snizort to the north end of the mill which is oriented more or less north-south and from there to the head of the southernmost extent of Loch Snizort Beag. The older OS maps also show a sub-circular enclosure between the possible miller's house and the lade which may have been a kaleyard. <1> <2>

The earthworks of the possible miller's house and kaleyard are visible in vertical aerial photographs taken in 2005 ('Millennium Map' series) and 2009. The site of the mill is also shown unlabelled on modern OS mapping but is covered by vegetation so not visible in aerial photography. <3> <4>
