Full Description

A walkover survey was carried out by Cannich Archaeological Services in 1999 of parts of the RSPB reserve at Corrimony prior to tree-planting.

Section 6, Site 28: Wall. Runs roughly SSW - NNE, approximately parallel to the road near the eastern boundary of the reserve in the SE part of section 6. At the southwest end it begins on the east side of the road; the grid reference given is the first point at which it can be clearly seen, but it may continue beyond the electric fence out of the reserve on to the scarp above the bothy. It crosses the road at NH 3589 2708 and continues parallel to the road, then comes down to meet the road; it carries on, on the line of the west side of a drainage ditch on the west side of the road, then diverges from it again to run parallel to the road about 10 m west of it. Boggy ground and drainage channels obscure the junction of this wall at its NE end with wall no. 29; it may possibly continue past the junction with wall no. 29, as it can be tentatively traced for another 20 m and may actually join up with wall no. 27. At its southern end on the east side of the road, many stones are visible under a covering of heather, but it is only 10 cm to 20 cm high. On the west side of the road the covering is grass and heather, and it is 20 cm to 30 cm high. <1>

NGR adjusted based on 2009 vertical aerial photographs. <2>

Note: The wall turns west at its northeast point for a short distance before heading southwest to form an elongated enclosure and is visible on Aps. (TB 7/5/25)
