Full Description

A walkover survey was carried out by Cannich Archaeological Services in 1999 of parts of the RSPB reserve at Corrimony prior to tree-planting.

Section 5, Site 17: Cairn. Situated between the road and the River Enrick, in an area of extensive peat-cutting, but immediately to the west of a stretch of higher, firmer ground. 3 m E - W x 2 m, Maximum height 25 cm; the cairn appears to fill up a hollow, rather than to be built up above the surrounding land surface. The stones are moss-covered and are mainly exposed, although there is light heather cover. The nature of this site is uncertain; it could be a clearance cairn dating from a period of cultivation before the peat growth, exposed again by peat-cutting. <1>
