Full Description

A walkover survey was carried out by Cannich Archaeological Services in 1999 of parts of the RSPB reserve at Corrimony prior to tree-planting.

Section 5, Site 10: Structure. Situated immediately east of the grassy track which runs through the northwest corner of section 5, and about 40 m south of the fence which forms the northern boundary of the reserve. The structure consists of an irregularly shaped hollow, enclosed by turf walls. Externally it is about 7 m square; the walls are up to 3 m wide, sloping down in places almost to the centre of the interior space, which is about 3 m in diameter. The walls are between 20 cm and 50 cm high on the outside, the lower height occurring in the north. Walls covered by long grass and some bracken; the interior vegetation is short grass and moss. The impression is of a turf building, not necessarily of any great antiquity, which has collapsed extensively. <1>
