Full Description

An archaeological survey of the Glencripesdale National Nature Reserve was commissioned by Scottish Natural Heritage and undertaken by J. G. Robertson in 1999.

Site 38. Fragmentary turf bank, situated along the West bank of an unnamed stream, which runs northwards to Rubha Aird Earnaich. This may be the remnant of the northeastern boundary of the Camas Salach woodland enclosure, built in 1787-8, under the instruction of the Duke of Argyll. (See above p. 8). Three relatively short fragments remain, all mostly distinguishable by the drop into a ditch on the east side.
a) Heather-covered turf bank running across the boundary of the survey area. Dimen: L (within survey area) 24m x W 1.50m x H 0.90 on E side; 0.20m on W side.
b) Turf bank, aligned with Nos. 38a and 38c. Peters out at both ends. Dimen: L 30m x W 1.20m x H 0.60m on E side; 0.10m on W side.
c) Turf bank continues along the line of Nos. 38 a and b, but peters out at the N end in thicket of young trees.
Dimen: L 22m x W 1.20m x H 0.70m on E side; 0.20m on W side. Dimen. of whole boundary: (within survey area) L c.1555m. Orient. N - S.
