Full Description

An archaeological survey of the Glencripesdale National Nature Reserve was commissioned by Scottish Natural Heritage and undertaken by J. G. Robertson in 1999.

Site 10. Fragments of a stone wall, which follows the NW side of an unnamed stream, to the S of the Camas Salach settlement. This wall seems to mark part of the boundary of Camas Salach Farm, but also form, along with another wall, No. 33, the head-dyke around the arable. (See above p. 5 and Fig. 2). The wall runs from Allt a' Chamais Shalaich, southwestwards for 460m and is traceable for most of this stretch, occasionally as fragments of coursed masonry but more often by clumps of moss-covered stones. The stream then turns sharply to the NNW and plunges downhill through a deep steep-sided gorge. The wall was not traced in this part, until the ground levels.off to the NW of the road. Dimensions: Total L 560m x W 0.70m - lm x H 1.60m max.
