Full Description

An archaeological survey of the Glencripesdale National Nature Reserve was commissioned by Scottish Natural Heritage and undertaken by J. G. Robertson in 1999.

Site 5. Turf bank. (See Colour Plate 1.) Remains of a turf bank, which may, with the walls, Nos. 3, 4 and 10, form part of thewoodland enclosure wall, No. 6, built in 1787-8 under the instructions of the Duke of Argyll (See above p. 8) The bank is only faintly visible and distinguishable mainly by the steep drop on theSE side into a molinia-filled ditch. The bank peters out at both ends in heather-coveredhummocks.
Dimenion: L 72m x W 0.90m. H 0.35m (on NW side) x D of ditch 0.30m. Orient. Approx. SW-NE.
