Full Description
An archaeological survey of the Glencripesdale National Nature Reserve was commissioned by Scottish Natural Heritage and undertaken by J. G. Robertson in 1999.
Site 4. Turf and stone boundary. Remains of a stone wall and turf bank, which may, with the bank, No. 5 and the walls Nos. 3 and 10, form part of the woodland enclosure wall, No. 6, built in 1787-8 under the instructions of the Duke of Argyll. (See above p. 8) The stone wall element consists of coursed masonry and runs for 44m to the WSW from a small stream. It then continues for 20m to the WSW as a broad turf bank, before curving round and downhill to the NW and NNW before petering out in hummocky heather. Dimen: L 74m x W of bank 1.80m - 2m x H 0.30m. W of wall 0.70m x H lm max downslope; 0.50m upslope. Orientated mostly ENE - WSW.
