Full Description

An archaeological survey of the Glencripesdale National Nature Reserve was commissioned by Scottish Natural Heritage and undertaken by J. G. Robertson in 1999.

Site 1, Turf bank: Remains of a turf and stone bank, running across the boundary of the survey area. It emerges from a natural rock outcrop, runs eastwards uphill and continues outside the survey area, skirting the north side of another natural outcrop. It contains some large boulders at the west end, but is visible mostly as a vague linear feature, distinguishable mainly by the sharp drop on the north side into a reed-filled ditch.
Dimenions: L (within survey area) 22m x W c. 1.30m. H (on north side) 0.50m, though up to 0.80m max. H (on south side) < 0.10m. <1>
