Full Description

Historic Assynt visited this site in May 2016.

Marked as a shieling on Homes map of Ledbeg farm. Enclosures and two compartment house or other building. The northern and western sections of an enclosure dyke similar to that shown on Homes map arc to the west of of the Allt Bad a'Ghille Duibh but the dyke is no longer visible elsewhere. A further surviving dyke cuts off the northern part of the larger enclosure to create a smaller one approx 70m x 70m which surrounds an area of limestone outcrops and good grass with the poorly preserved remains of a rectangular structure of two compartments approx 9m long and 4 wide overall aligned west - east. Its squared corners suggest a nineteenth century origin and it could have been a small house or bothy. To the south is a 10m diameter stell at NC 2376 1421. <1>

NGR adjusted based on 2009 vertical aerial photographs. <2>
