Full Description

Historic Assynt visited this site in December 2014.

A longhouse and later structure on the northern edge of a terrace above and to southeast of Calda House. A very eroded rectangular foundation with rounded corners aligned WSW - ENE and standing only 20cms high at most. Externally 23.4 x 5m with possible partition wall approx 8m from WSW end. This is both longer and narrower than most longhouses in the area and could indicate various phases of building along the terrace edge, but not enough survives to be sure. Gaps in the long walls at various points make identification of entrance(s) difficult. At the ENE end of the structure a later sub rectangular structure approx 5m ENE - WSW and 4m NNW - SSE sits within the earlier foundation with an entrance in the southern corner. Its walls stand to 1m in height around three sides and the interior is choked with tumbled stones. It's walls no doubt contain much of the earlier structure and explain the latter's eroded appearance. <1>
