Full Description

A possible kerb cairn found during a walkover survey by Ross and Cromarty Archaeological Services in 2013 in advance of the proposed Torvean Golf Course development, Inverness.

Site 18: One possible prehistoric site, a possible burial cairn, was recorded on the north side of the intact wall (Site 17) in the south-western corner of the survey area. It measured 12m x 9m and was aligned north-south. It had been substantially robbed out on the east side leaving two very distinct hollows and had undoubtedly been the source of stone used to build Site 17. The west side was much more substantial. A bank was evident on the north side. It was recommended that a 20m buffer zone around the possible cairn be established to protect it from the development phase of the proposed golf course. <1>

The site is visible in SEPA LiDAR data. <2>
