Full Description
A length of rubble dyke at Loch na Garbh Uidhe, Assynt.
The dyke was recorded by C Dagg in 2002 during a survey undertaken in advance of a proposed woodland creation scheme. Site 5: Possible dyke terminal at NC 1631 2499. Rubble walling crossing the gravel beach and extending into the loch may be the terminal of a dyke which could not be traced through the bracken, or may have been some form of landing point for boat access. <1>
The possible continuation of the dyke can be seen on vertical aerial photographs taken in 2009. It runs southeast from the loch roughly parallel to the side of a small burn for c.16m before turning eastwards, in which direction it meanders for at least 85m. It may, however, connect with another dyke further to the east (see MHG63961). <2>
