Not on 1st ed. OS map, but depicted and labelled on the 2nd ed. Map. According to Kilmorack Historic Association book A History of the Parish of Kirkhill. Sgire Mhoire. Volume 1: The Parish, Estates, Infrastructure and Occupations (2008) p. 176, it opened 1876, replacing the school at Milifiach. See this book for some pictures and details of pupil numbers and teachers. Masonry school (now a private residence). Highland Folk Museum has a corrugated iron building from Knockbain, which is captioned as the 1925 headmaster’s room (photo in the Charlie Gair collection photos 392-393). It was reputedly built for boarded-out children aged 5-11, with a dedicated teacher from Glasgow who understood them. Later the headteacher took the hut over. The Charlie Gair Photographic Collection has a number of photos of Knockbain school, dating from 1901 to 1977 Nos. 389-403, 405-411), most of them school photos, some with people identified. The Highland Archives have a lease from 1876 (C1/ 3/31/5/1/83) and school log books (C1/5/3/159)
