Full Description

A walkover survey at Loch Achility was undertaken by R. Spencer-Jones and S. North of NoSAS in February 2025.

In the southeast corner of Loch Achilty is an indentation of the loch to the east forming a smooth oval depression measuring 47 x 28m. When first visited in July 2021, this was a slightly marshy grassed-over feature. On re-visiting in February 2025 this is now filled with water, as a result of the narrow 2.5m channel having been dug out. The water-filled space restores it that seen on the 1st edition ordnance survey map. The water-filled space appears artificial, with smooth surrounding banks, and a ridge to the south. It has the appearance of a harbour, although could represent an artificially enhanced natural feature. <1>

The feature is visible on SEPA LiDAR data. <2>
