Full Description
A walkover survey was undertaken at Strathglass and Strathfarrar by R. Spencer-Jones and S. North of NoSAS between 2021 and 2024.
Shieling settlement:
Site S07. NH 38161 41870 GPS, NH38152 41883 (Approximate position from LiDAR.) Low turf walls. On prominent platform. NE-SW. Covered in bracken. 3.5 x 3 metres.
Site S08, NH 38528 42091 GPS, NH38137 41895 (Approximate position from LiDAR.) Low turf walls. On platform. NE-SW. 4 x 3 metres.
Site S09, NH 38152 41884 GPS, NH38182 41913 (Approximate position from LiDAR.) Low turf walls. On platform. NE-SW. 4 x 2.5 metres.
Site S10, NH 38527 42128 GPS, NH38140 41921 (Approximate position from LiDAR.) Low turf walls, marshy area with reeds. 4 x 3 metres.
Site S11, NH 38131 41908 GPS, NH38120 41921 (Approximate position from LiDAR.) On prominent platform. NE-SW. Covered in bracken. 4.5 x 2.5 metres.
Site S12, NH 38109 41909 GPS, NH38097 41917 (Approximate position from LiDAR.) Low turf walls. Indistinct. 4 x 2.5 metres.
Site S13, NH 38126 41889 GPS, NH38113 41901 (Approximate position from LiDAR.) Turf walls 0.5m high. Prominent. 4 x 3 metres.
Site S14, NH 38122 41869 GPS, NH38108 41977 (Approximate position from LiDAR.) Low turf walls. West wall very prominent. NE-SW. 4 x 3 metres.
Site S15, NH 38128 41847 GPS, NH38115 41857 (Approximate position from LiDAR.) Has probable outbuilding, 1.5m diameter, at E end. Deep bowl in centre of structure. 4 x 3 metres.
Site S16, NH 38132 41829 GPS, NH38122 41838 (Approximate position from LiDAR.) Low turf walls. Deep bowl in centre. Bracken. 3 x 2.5 metres.
Site S41, NH 38131 41830 GPS, NH38119 41840 (Approximate position from LiDAR.) Probable shieling platform. (No photos), 5 x 2.5 metres.
