Full Description

A large hut circle near Loch Achilty. It is visible in vertical aerial photography and in SEPA LiDAR data and measures c.20m in diameter. It may, alternatively, be a henge though an inner ditch is not apparent. <1> <2>

A walkover survey at Loch Achility was undertaken by R. Spencer-Jones and S. North of NoSAS in January 2025.

Site HC02: North of a large unenclosed field sloping to the north, and just south of a sunken track, lies a platform on which is a large circular structure measuring 19 m diameter, with a probable entrance in the east. The walls are of turf and survive to 0.6m high. The interior is flat and featureless, sloping slightly to north. Growing inside the feature is an old birch tree and an ancient juniper tree. Being so large, it is uncertain whether this is a hut circle or an enclosure. <3>
