Full Description

A large hut circle near Loch Achilty. It is visible in vertical aerial photography and in SEPA LiDAR data and measures c.20m in diameter. It may, alternatively, be a henge though an inner ditch is not apparent. <1> <2>

A walkover survey at Loch Achility was undertaken by R. Spencer-Jones and S. North of NoSAS in February 2025.

Site HC04: Just south of the pre-historic field system, east of Loch Achilty, is a low stone dyke. Just north of the east end of this dyke is a low circular feature consisting of walls of turf and grass on a stone base, 1m wide and up to 0.4m high. A 0.8m wide entrance is in the SSE. The external diameter is 20m, internally 17m. The dimensions would seem to preclude this being a domestic roofed building. Perhaps an animal enclosure. <3>
