Full Description
A desk-based assessment and walkover survey were undertaken by Clyde Archaeology in 2023 in relation to a proposed underground cable south of Mybster, Caithness.
Site 82a: Two possible fallen standing stones were reported above Rangang Farm by the local landowner during field survey for the proposed underground cable. Although
outside the survey corridor the sites were visited. Some 50m south-east of the scheduled standing stone (SM473) a large elongated stone block lies on the ground surface. It measures 2.3m in length, 0.7m in width and 0.4m in depth. It tapers to a point at the northern end and isflat at the narrow southern end. The stone lies at the bottom edge of a bank/scarp that was formed during modern groundworks for the farm. It is more likely the stone originates from this earth moving. <1>
Note: Site not visible on aerial photographs so location based on grid coordinates. (TB 13/1/25)
