Full Description
One, possibly two, shieling huts to the west of the Allt Na Pairte.
Tucked into an E-facing slope on the W bank of the Allt na Pairte and close to the path to Boreraig, are the badly-degraded remains of at least one, possibly two, shielings. The better-preserved stucture is circular and measures 4.5m N-S by 3.5m E-W over walls of rubble construction; a door opening lies on the E-facing side. The second structure lies to the N and is built of boulders, but is now too disturbed to positively identify as a shieling. Visited by C Stansfield, 3 April 1990. <1>
The site was visited and re-recorded by M Wildgoose during a survey in 1999 in advance of a proposed woodland creation scheme. Lying at the foot of a small scree slope in a shallow gully, only 20m to the west side of the Boreraig path is a single cell stone shieling. This shieling is circular in plan and measures 4.5m in diameter over walls 0.8m thick. A door opening 0.5m wide faces down the gully towards the path. <2>
The features are not visible on vertical aerial photography [IS-L 13/10/2025].
