Full Description

An enclosure or pen to the east of the Allt Na Peighinn, Strath, Skye.

On the E side of the Allt na Peighinn at a height of 105m OD is a rectangular stone-built enclosure which lies amongst rig cultivation. The site is visible from Boreraig path. Not visited. Noted by CS, 3 April 1990. <1>

The site was recorded by M Wildgoose in 1999 in advance of a proposed woodland creation scheme. On the east side of the Alit na Peighinn, at a height of 105m OD is a well preserved stone pen, two stone shielings (see MHG and MHG) and a small patch of lazy bed cultivation (see MHG40234). The pen is aligned northwest to southeast and measures 15m by 8.5m over walls which stand to a maximum of 1.1m high and are 0.70m thick. A narrow entrance, 0.70m wide lies in the north corner of the pen. The remains of a massively built stone slab wall lie to the northeast side of the site. <2>

The feature is visible in vertical aerial photography. <3>

The "…massively-built stone slab wall" referred to in the description in <2> is the head dyke boundary of the earlier pre-crofting township of Boreraig (see MHG64735) [IS-L 13/10/2025].
