Full Description
Three superimposed farm buildings close to Ledbeg farmhouse were recorded by members of Historic Assynt. Homes map of Ledbeg Farm shows the main farmhouse to the east of a triangular enclosure and and a further comples of building to the west. The latest and most obvious struicture is 3.7m wide and 11m long internally with a central doorway in the E wall. The internal NE corner is enclosed by a small compartment 1.3m wide and 4.5m long which may have had an external doorway. It could have been a ouse or an outbuilding and is probably late 18th or 19th century. On a N- S alignment beside and east of the later building are the partial remains of a dry stone foundation approx 7.6m x 2.4m with semi-circular end walls. Not enough survives above ground to indicate wall thickness or entrances. On an E - W alignment a foundation with a semi circular w end 3.3m wide internally projects beyond the w wall of the most recent building, appears to runs under it and may well also extend beyond itit. Very little survives of these earlier structures but the plan is sufficiently similar to that shown on Homes map as to suggest that they might be outbuildings associated with the main farmhouse and triangular enclosure. <1>
