Full Description

A horizontal mill and other features were discovered by members of Historic Assynt beside the lower falls on the Allt a'Chalda Mor which is on the boundary between Eadar a'Chalda and Kirkton. At NC 25360 23533 A double skin dyke arcing part way round around a sink hole before petering out into peat bog. On its north side two possible buildings approx 5 x 2.5m. At NC 25400 23538 the fragmentary remains of a horizontal mill with a leat leading into it from the north end of the falls. At NC 25388 23536 a dyke running from a cliff south to the burn where there may be the remains of stepping stones and a further dyke of less formal construction rising from the burn to an outcrop. Close to the dyke below the cliff another possible small structure approx 2.5 square. <1>
