Full Description
There are at least seven weirs on the River Hope lying downstream from just below Hope Bridge. Only the northernmost is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS map (1878). The weirs are at NC 47382 61175, NC 47406 61084, NC 47413 60901, NC 47417 60801, NC 47400 60526, NC 47372 60412, NC 47357 60311.
Information from RCAHMS (DCC) 13 January 2013 <1>
The weir noted by RCAHMS as being the 'northernmost' is actually the 'southernmost'. The fact that this is the only one shown on the both the OS 1st and 2nd editions would strongly imply that the others to the north are more likely to be of more recent origin. There appears to be an eighth weir at NC 47580 61358 [IS-L 20/03/2026].
The weirs are visible on vertical aerial photography. <2>
