Full Description
NG46NW 10 404 650.
Centred at NG 404 650 on a W-facing slope blanketed with thick peat is a settlement of six circular stone-walled huts (A to F).
All hut diameters are given between wall centres. Hut 'A', the best preserved, measures 9.0m in diameter with the wall spread to c. 3.0m all round. The ill-defined entrance is in the SW. Joining the hut immediately NW of the entrance is a scarp which is probably a lynchet. 'B' immediately S of 'A' but much less well-defined, measures 9,0m in diameter with the wall spread to c.2.5m.The ill-defined entrance is in the W.
'C' is visible as a platform with traces of a peat covered wall around it measuring c.8.om in diameter. The entrance is not evident.
'D' measures 8.0m in diameter with the wall spread to 2.5m. The entrance in the NE is ill-defined.
'E' measures 8.0m in diameter with the wall spread to 2.5m. The NE arc is mutilated and the entrance is not evident.
'F' measures 8.5m in diameter with the wall spread to 3.0m. There is a break in the NW and SW either of which may be the entrance.
In the area are a number of stone clearance heaps, some mainly under peat and heather, probably from contemporary cultivation plots.
Visited by OS (A A) 4 November 1971.
