Full Description
A rifle range used by the Lochcarron Volunteers, later the Ross and Cromarty Highland Mountain Battery Territorial Force, used between c.1870 and 1914 near Lochcarron. At the target end at the western end of the range is the substantially built protection wall fronted by an earthen bank and topped with steel frames. The winding wheels for raiing and lowering the targets are also still in-situ. <1>
The OS 2nd Edition map also shows an earthwork at the opposite end of the range (500 yards in length) from where the rifles were fired.
