Full Description

NG81NE 4 888 185.

Lionachan, a depopulated settlement, situated close by a small burn in the area centred at NG 888 185. It comprises 7 buildings, varying in size from 6.0m x 3.5m to 25.0m x 3.5m, and up to 1.0m in height, 2 small enclosures, of which one on the N bank of the burn contains lazy beds, and a corn-drying kiln. The settlement was depopulated in 1840 for the introduction of sheep.

A township, comprising nine unroofed buildings and two enclosures is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire, Ross-shire 1876-80, sheet xlvi). Six unroofed buildings and one enclosure are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1971).
