Full Description

A probable fish trap near the south end of the Cromarty Bridge, Findon.

Enclosures on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Ross and Cromarty, sheet lxxvii; (1881); probably associated with Findon Quarry - Gone. <1>

This feature appears on the OS 1st Edition map as an 'E' shaped , i.e. an open ended two-celled right-angled enclosure formed from four lines. It was probably a fish trap as the open sides face the shoreline. Far from being 'gone' as reported by CFA in 1998, at least part of the longest line facing outwards and the middle of the three other lines of the 'E' are visible on vertical aerial photographs. The remainder may have been lost to erosion but given the proximity to the former Findon quarry to the southwest (see MHG33876) and the start of the southern end of the Cromarty Bridge, it is just as likely that it has become covered by sediment. <2>
