Full Description
In a fold in the ground below the Waterstein Cliffs, is a possible hut circle, the interior diameter ill-defined, but which measures overall 7.0m in diameter with much spread turf walls averaging c. 2.5m in width and 0.4m in height. There is a large stone in the bank on the NW.
Some 10.0m to the S, set into the slope, there is a circular hollow 3.0m in diameter and 0.3m in depth. It appears to be artificial, but this is not certain as there are other, though less regular, hollows hereabouts. Visited by OS (C F W) 11 May 1961; Visible on RAF air photographs CPE/Scot/UK/175: 1298-9.
Despite an intensive search in the area of previous OS field surveyor grid reference, the structure described by him could not be positively identified. At NG 1420 4772 and NG 1440 4752 are some ruinous sub-circular shielings, but none of them agree with the previous OS measurements. In the area are numerous natural hollows.
Visited by OS (R L) 20 October 1971.
