Full Description

NC70NW 69 7483 0593

A: NC 7483 0593; B: NC 7491 0595. Two hut circles found during field investigation.
Visited by OS (J M) 31 July 1975.

These are not hut circles but fortuitous arrangements of boulders and large stones, heaps of stones cleared from adjacent strip cultivation, and the footings of a recent field wall.
Visited by OS (N K B) 23 June 1981.

A hut-circle (ROG95 331, NC 7483 0593) is situated on a grassy terrace to N of the Allt Clais a' Chait. It measures 10m diameter within a faced, stony bank, 1.6m in thickness and 0.3m in height, and has been both robbed and then slighted by ploughing. What may be a hut lies some 14.5m to SSW; it measures 4.8m diameter within boulder-faced bank spread to 1m in thickness and 0.3m in height.
There are fragments of an earth-and-stone banked field-system on the terrace to E of the hut-circle. The hut-circle identified previously at NC 7491 0595 (OS'B') is merely a junction between elements of this field system, parts of which are mapped on the current edition of the OS 1:10,000 map (1970).
