Full Description

An archaeological survey at Rothiemurchas was undertaken by Dr T C Welsh in 1993.

Within a semi-circular elevation on the shore of Loch an Eilein 40m NNE of where tracks diverge, there are two possible hut circles within an oval enclosure. The enclosure bank skirts the west arc of the elevation outside which is a possible ditch, and appears to curve onto the shore on SE, where the east side is either eroded or submerged. 17m from north end is a 16m circle over 2m wall to within 6m of loch shore, and 10m south of this is an oval 17 x 14 m , both sloping. The south arc of the enclosure is partly overlain by a later wall running NW to SE. <1>

Note: Site not visible on aerial photographs so location based on grid coordinates. (TB 4/2/26)

See MHG20102 for hut circles.
