Full Description
The bothy at Strathmashie is reputed to have once been used by Queen Victoria as a toilet. There is no definitive evidence for this story and the bothy has never contained a toilet, but local tradition persists. A planning application to demolish the bothy caused press interest in 2005. The CNPA insisted on a photographic record of the building prior to demolition - this is held in h-link and on CD.
The building is not present on the 1st or 2nd edition OS maps, although a structure is shown slightly to the north-east and annotated 'Kennels' on the 2nd edition map. It seems more likely that if the Queen Vicoria story is true - this other building (of which no trace now remains) would be the more likely candidate.
