This had been a very busy crossing prior to the dredging of the canal, so the Canal Commissioners provided ferry piers.

The ferry line between this pier and the pier (NH63NW 29.03) on the E bank is visible on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire, sheet xix), Bona Ferry is marked on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire 1905, sheet xix), and the location is visible on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1975) and on the OS Basic Scale raster map (ND).
