The Allt-an-Lagain is fed into the canal by way of this enormous elevated weir. Water roars into the sump during wet weather, whereas there is only a trickle going over the weir in dry periods.
G Hutton 1992.
The location of this weir is visible on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire 1873, sheet xcvii) and on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire 1904, sheet xcvii). The weir is clearly marked on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1971) and on the OS Basic Scale raster map (ND).
