Full Description
The buildings belonging to the abandoned farmstead of Bleachfield are strung out along the edge of a terrace overlooking the River Thurso from the W. They include a two-storey farmhouse, possibly dating from c.1760, with an outshot at its S end, a cart shed with hay loft, a byre and stable of L-shaped plan, and a barn with a water-powered threshing mill. The wheel house is attached to the S side of the barn and was fed by a lade, with water collected behind a dam a short distance upslope to the WSW. The buildings are all of roughly coursed flagstone and are roofed with corrugated iron, with the exception of the farmhouse which was roofed in slate. The house had an attic lit by windows in each gable. The site was visited in 2000.
