Full Description

A short stretch of ragged walling preserved as a low stone spread was recorded in 1989 by Archaeology Projects Glasgow as part of a survey of lands around Tardarroch, Daviot and Dunlichty to identify and map archaeological monuments threatened by the proposed afforestation scheme. It was described as being covered with grass c. 2.0m wide running from NH 6792 3311 to NH 6803 3311. <1>

This stony bank runs approximately E-W across heather moorland. It was traced for about 60m, dying away at either end.
Visited by RCAHMS (SDB) 4 November 1992. <2>

The feature was visited and photographed as part of a walkover survey by Highland Archaeology Services in 2009 in advance of a proposed overhead line refurbishment between Daviot and Whitebridge. Running from E-W, at NH 6792 3311 to NH 6803 3311 and in the vicinity of pole number 65, this turf covered stony bank, with a c.2m spread, was traced by the RCAHMS for about 60m and was found to gradually disappear at either end. The feature would not be directly affected during works, however, it was advised that no plant or machinery be driven over this area during the proposed refurbishments. <3>

The denuded remains of the field wall were identified during a field survey by CFA Archaeology in 2014 in advance of a proposed 275 kV OHL between Knocknagael and Tomatin. They were found to be as previously described. <4>

The feature is visible in vertical aerial photography. <5> <6>
