Three areas of cultivation, situated on the N-facing slope of a spur to the N of Tom nan Eildean, was noted during a pre-afforestation survey of the NE part of the Drimnin estate. Each patch appears as an area of herb-rich grass with bracken amid heather and molina. These isolated patches of cultivation are probably represent part of the outfield at Drumbuidhe.
The northernmost patch of rig, at NM 6052 5785 (NMRS MS 1012/1, no.113), is bounded on the NE, SE and NW sides by a ditch. The rig, which is barely discernible on the ground, measures 41m from NW to SE by 22m overall.
Further uphill to the SE, at NM 6063 5766, there is a second area of cultivation (NMRS MS 1012/1, no.114). The cultivation measures 19m from NW to SE by 16m. It is undefined except for a linear spread of clearance along the NW, or downhill, end. There is no rig visible.
The third patch of cultivation (NMRS MS 1012/1, no.116) lies to the E at NM 6079 5776. It is 32m square with traces of rig, aligned from NW to SE, just visible.
J G Robertson, December 1997; NMRS MS 1012/1, no.113, 114 and 116.
