NM55NE 7.01 from 5905 5706 to 5864 5741
This head-dyke, following the Allt Port an Eorna, was noted during a pre-afforestation survey of the NE part of the Drimnin Estate. The bank is of slight proportions at the NW end, where it is no more than a 0.8m wide 0.2m high step rising to the NE. Elsewhere, it is more pronounced, surviving as a 1.6m to 1.8m wide and 0.6m to 0.8m high bank revetted on the SW, but only 0.2m high on the NE, where best preserved. Further detached stretches of bank, at NM 5840 5750, NM 5836 5762 and NM 5833 5764, may represent the continuation of this feature to the NW.
The bank is shown on 'A plan of the Estate of Drimnin The property of Sir Charles Gordon 1836' by D Wilson (SRO, RHP 3258), although it is not clear what is being defined as it lies well within the perimeter of the Sornagan holding (Gaskell 1968). It is possibly a division within the moorland, or it may mark an earlier land division.
