Balnascrittan farmstead is described in the Name Book (ONB 1858-61) as a "farmsteading one story high, thatched and in bad repair." It is depicted as four roofed buildings and an enclosure on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire 1873, sheet lxxxviii), but is not recorded on the current 1:10000 map sheet (1994). It has been recorded on recent aerial photographs (RCAHMSAP 1995).
