Full Description

Site recorded during a survey of the townships of North and South Screapadal plus the surrounding area carried out by the Association of Certificated Field Archaeologists (ACFA) in April 1998 as part of a continuing programme of recording the physical remains of human activity on the island of Raasay (Macdonald and Scott Wood 1997).

Feature 10; Still. On the shore some 400m south east of South Screapadal and less than I00m north of Eaglais Breige, in a collapsed rock shelter, is a feature which appears to be the remains of a still. The well built, stone coursed flue has a double wall. Although it has collapsed on the seaward side, the structure clearly measures 1.5m diameter at the top, 0.7m at the base and is 1.6m deep. There is a possible entrance passage from the north west. <1>

Note: Site not visible on aerial photographs so location based on grid reference. (7/10/26)
