Full Description
Site recorded during a survey of the townships of North and South Screapadal plus the surrounding area carried out by the Association of Certificated Field Archaeologists (ACFA) in April 1998 as part of a continuing programme of recording the physical remains of human activity on the island of Raasay (Macdonald and Scott Wood 1997).
Feature 8; House. To the east and level with feature 7d) above, about 25m west of the head-dyke, were the remains of a rectangular building possibly a house or barn. It measured 8.2m by 3.8m on an east west axis. The end walls were rounded and the maximum height of the turf covered walls was about 0.25m. Two possible entrances were identified in the north and south walls directly opposite, about 2.7m from the east end. This gave rise to the suggestion that this could have been a winnowing barn. <1>
