A group of two huts and five mounds, the latter probably also the remains of collapsed huts, occupies a narrow terrace on the S flank of Beinn Tighe overlooking the huts and buildings NG20NE 97 and 98. The smaller of the two huts (NG 2521 0574) lies at the back of the terrace and is tucked into the foot of a crag; it measures 2.1m in diameter within an earthen bank spread up to 1.2m in thickness and 0.4m in height. The second hut is subrectangular on plan, measuring 2m from NW to SE by 1.8m within a low stony bank 1.1m in thickness, and is set on top of a large oval mound. Within the edge of this mound on the NNE, there is a row of three contiguous stones, which form the kerb of some structure, but no other structural details are visible. This mound, which measures 10m by 8.3m, has been damaged by rabbit burrowing, but from the upcast of the burrows a sherd of pottery, three flint chips and a piece of pumice were recovered. Another large oval mound lies immediately to the NW at the foot of the crag, and contains traces of a stony bank and a small U-shaped setting of stones, although the latter appears to be relatively recent in date.
(Canna 827-33)
Visited by RCAHMS (ARG), 10 April 1995.
Sherds of pottery, one of which is from a cord- or comb-impressed Beaker, were recovered in the upcast of rabbit burrows at the large oval mound during fieldwork in May 2001 (NG 2520 0571).
(Finds to be deposited in the NMS).
