A group of nine mounds and six huts are situated on flat ground at the head of a burn gully to the W of Compass Hill; the burn gully steepens to the S and is cut off from the terrace below (NG20NE 9) by a stretch of stony bank. The mounds are undoubtedly the remains of small huts, now reduced to low grass-grown spreads of earth, some of which have slightly dished interiors. The group extends across both sides of the burn, all but one on the E side of the burn lying within an enclosure. The enclosure is defined on three sides by a grass-grown stony bank and on the E by a natural rock-face. Within it lie three mounds and three huts, the largest mound measuring 10m in diameter and 0.8m in height; a subrectangular hut appears to overlie the E end of the mound. The largest hut of the group lies 15m to the W of the enclosure in a bend on the E side of the burn. Subrectangular on plan, it measures 6.2m from ESE to WNW by 4m transversely within a grass-grown bank 1.1m in thickness and 0.35m in height. The rest of the group, which lie on the W side of the burn, vary in both shape and size; the majority of the mounds are circular, measuring between 3.5m and 6m in diameter, while the larger of the two huts is oval and measures 5.8m from N to S by 4.8m within a low grass-grown bank 1.2m in thickness.
