A shieling is shown on Homes map of Ledbeg Farm and the Ox Byre which is aligned north - south, 18m x 4.5m internally with a store or annexe at its southern end which is of the same width and 2.6m across. The byre has two opposing entrances in the long walls close to the junction with the store. The walls are double faced and between 1.2 and 1.8m thick. A drain is visible the full length of the byre and appears to slope down to the centrefrom both ends. Presumably a drain then runs under the east wall which is down-slope from the west wall. The byre is adjoined by two enclosures both approx 60m x 60m, one lying to the east and with access to the byre through its east door and the other its mirror image to the west. The enclosure to the east (A) slopes gently down eastwards, but that to the west (B) rises more steeply westwards. Just beyond B's curving western boundary is another straighter dyke running roughly parallel N - S and which to the north turns at right angles to run both east and west. Running east it encloses a narrow area to the north of B. Running steeply uphill to the west then south and east to where it started, it surrounds a third enclosure © which is of similar overall size to the other two but longer E - W and shorter N - S. <1>
