Full Description

This farmstead is situated at a bend in a small burn near the S edge of a terrace cut by the River Calder. It comprises two buildings and an enclosure. Fragments of a head-dyke lead off to both E and W, but their relationship to the buildings is not known. They appear to enclose an area of pasture on the S of the River Calder, with the segment of the bank to the W forming a T-junction (NN 6585 9846) with the head-dyke at Dail na Seilg (NN69NW 1), and that to the E extending almost as far as Dail an Tullaich (NN 6695 9848).
The two buildings lie roughly at right angles to one another, with the enclosure to the SE. The SE building measures 9m from NE to SW by 3.8m transversely within faced-rubble walls, 0.8m thick and 0.2m high; an entrance is visible on the SE, but there is also a large gap towards the SW end of this wall, where the building appears to have been robbed. The NW building is much reduced and a spread of rubble fills the interior; it measures 10m from NW to SE by 4.4m transversely over faced-rubble walls 0.7m thick.
The farmstead is depicted on the Duke of Gordon's estate map of 1771 (SRO RHP 1835); this shows an additional building to the NE, but no trace of it was found at the date of survey. From their location in peat-covered terrain, with the evident lack of any arable land, it is likely that this is a stock or sheep-farm.
