Within the construction trench for the improvements, the typical soil profile included a) dark peaty topsoil (200-400mm thick) over b) orange clay containing degraded sandstone. Four large circular pits up to 2.8m in diameter were recorded. These contained mixed modern rubbish and building bedris, including table ware sherds, window glass, slat and brick.
